Archaeology at Sheffield – Celebrate The First 50 Years!

Event details: Saturday 24 May 2014. Full details below.

As you may be aware, in 2013/14 we have been celebrating the first 50 years of the teaching of Archaeology at Sheffield. To conclude our 50th Anniversary celebrations, we would like to invite current staff and students to a special programme of events on 24 May 2014:

  • 1.30pm-4.30pm: Open Labs (Northgate House, West Street, S1 4ET)
  • 5pm: 50th Anniversary Lecture (St Georges Church, S1 4DT)

For the 50th Anniversary Lecture we are delighted that Professor Colin Renfrew (Baron Renfrew of Kaimsthorn), former member of staff (1965-72) and ongoing friend of the Department, has agreed to speak about “The Radiocarbon Revolution: Sheffield and the ‘New Archaeology’”

Professor Sir Keith Burnett, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, will introduce Colin’s lecture with a short speech celebrating 50 years of archaeology at Sheffield.

The event will commence at 5.00pm, and will be held in St Georges Church, 17 Mappin Street, S1 4DT.
