Composer to take up Residence in Historic Home
Dr Dorothy Ker will take up an opportunity to live in the former home of New Zealand composer Douglas Lilburn while she is a Visiting Scholar at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington from July 2013 to June 2014.
Living in Wellington during her Study Leave, Dr Ker will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with outstanding musicians and ensembles throughout the country, including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, who will be recording her orchestral work ‘a gentle infinity’ in November, and STROMA, who are performing her trio ‘Water Mountain’ at the end of July. The Lilburn Trust acquired the home, which is located in Thorndon at the centre of New Zealand’s capital city, following the renowned composer’s death in 2001 in order ‘to enrich the cultural life of New Zealand by providing creative opportunities for professional composers’.
