French Book group celebrates its first birthday

French book group, founded and run by Dr Karine Zbinden in the French Department, celebrated its first birthday last February. In its first year of existence the group has acquired a faithful following of francophone and francophone readers from the city. One of the year’s highlights was the off the shelf! event which brought new Francophile readers to the group, some of whom have since become regulars. This past year, books by Michel Houellebecq, Yasmina Khadra and Saint Exupéry’s Le petit Prince have all sparked off animated discussions (in French!). The group always welcomes new members and attendance can be occasional. The group meets one Monday evening a month in Café Rouge to discuss a book in an informal and friendly atmosphere.
