French Play: A Double Bill of Marivaux and Ionesco

The Department of French staged a double bill of brilliant one-act plays by Marivaux and Ionesco in the Drama Studio in February to near sell-out audiences over three nights. The cast included students from all undergraduate years, Masters and PhD students, and one member of academic staff. They also took the show on the road, following an invitation to perform the plays at the University of Cambridge for a diverse audience of French theatre students, international students, French lecturers and the general public. The Marivaux play also received a review on the webpage of the British Journal for Eighteenth-Century studies, acclaiming the energy and clarity of the performance.

The plays were directed by Dr David McCallam and Dr Julia Dobson.
